Brief

As The Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon held its inaugural night race, the organisers wanted to encourage non-runners to join in the atmosphere of Singapore’s largest annual marathon. The challenge here: to bolster the spectator experience by introducing a programme of entertainment and interactive zone targeted at a family friendly audience.

Solution

Located at strategic vantage points around the route, we marked out three Spectator Zones where race supporters can get a glimpse of the runners - Empress Lawn, The Promontory, and The Float. Spectators could also expect F&B stalls, live music, and family entertainment across all three zones. 

In line with SCMS’ get-fit theme, we curated lawn games and side activities related to sports. Making use of the unique night timing, we designed Glow Sports that transforms everyday sports like futsal, bubble soccer and dodgeball into glow-in-the-dark variants for a whole new night experience. Other activities included an obstacle course, a NERF battle arena, chapteh competitions, and fitness classes.

As a global event with attendees from 133 countries, we also showcased Singapore culture through traditional roving lion dance performances and local food options in the F&B offerings. Each of the zones were also set up with a huge LED screen broadcasting a livestream of the race as the racers passed by.
